Urban Hobo is Live!

20120502-173148.jpg

It’s here! Finally….it’s here!!!! Our website is up and running. Although its a little crude and I’m still trying to figure things out, we have something out there with a new logo and ready to hit this next next adventure full force.

Urban Hobo is about “artful edibles” ….simple great goodness delivered in cool packaging AND funky eclectic art handmade for a gift, yourself or seasonal items.

When we first decided to enter into this new adventure, I had no idea what to expect. I did not wish to look back one day and say…”What if?” OR “I wished I would’ve trusted my instincts and had the courage to start something on my own..” SO….we are starting out very small and see where this takes us. Juan and I encourage you to visit our website www.urban-hobo.com. Please check often as we will have new updates on our baked goods and eclectic stuff!. Especially when we approach the holidays we will have some great items for you to peruse,

I am happy to speak with you regarding our cookies and caramels and customize your order for corporate gifts, events or something for yourself!

The crosses and ornaments (available soon) are one of a kind. No two are made exactly alike. Once it’s sold…there will not be another one exactly the same. I make them by hand and also make the charms that hang by hand.

Most of the eclectic art we make comes from recycled materials, simple pop art designs and lots of glue, nails, paint, screws…anything that we might come across.

Our goal is to provide cool gifts that are handmade and unique and not pricey.

East Bound and Down, Loaded up and Truckin’

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin’,
We’re gonna do what they say can’t be done.
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I’m east bound, just watch ol’ “Bandit” run.
(Lyrics to Jerry Reed song from movie “Smokey and the Bandit)Image

Well it has been a busy 10 days. We spent our last week in Arizona packing and saying our goodbyes to our family and friends and hitting the road at 4AM! This was the scene for 8 hours from my front windshield. Juan in the U-Haul truck hauling his SUV… Flloyd…the crotchety 32 year old parrot with him and me with the two dachshunds sleeping quietly in a comfy pillow top bed. (Wink wink smiley face)

Juan and I are so excited about this next adventure. As I mentioned before, for me…it is coming home. For Juan…it is seeing a new region with fresh eyes. Which makes it exciting for me, it’s amazing the things I take for granite that he finds so amazing. The scenery and culture, the food and of course the people!

So we landed at 1:00PM and me with a 102 fever (ended up with a horrible sinus and chest infection) we unloaded the truck. Actually Juan felt so sorry for me and unloaded about 85%! The excitement moving out-of-state, doing a complete turnaround in our lives and starting a new adventure!

Paper wrappers flying to the floor as we un-wrapped our things as if it was Christmas, flattening boxes and decorating our home as if it was the first time ever…just a great moment!

So here I sit F-I-N-A-L-L-Y …after a whirlwind turnaround pack up drive 500+ miles, unload and restart our lives. Although exhausting….it is a great feeling.

So what do I do now? I guess Juan and I need to get on part two of this crazy and exciting adventure.

Aloha…Bienvenida…Bienvenue…Benvenuti…Willkommen…Welcome!

One of my costumes for halloween as a child was being a hobo!Welcome to our new blog…Urban Hobo! I am so excited (along with Juan) to get this part of our adventure started. We are so excited about this new path we are taking. We’ve recently made the decision to relocate to Texas and for me it is coming home. No not exactly the same…as so much has changed in the last twenty something years here…but a familiarity of small town feel in a much bigger and more populated city!

Our goal is still to blog about “right-sizing” your life and living a simpler lifestyle (I know nothing has changed about me using a favorite word of the day). However, we really wish to embrace both local and throughout the southwest great “Mom & Pop” places you should check out. Still love many of the “box stores” out there, however, you can find some of the neatest gifts, clothing, eateries  and other cool products and services from “Mom & Pop” than you could in a large corporate retail/restaurant site.

This will also be the place where we will showcase some of the “artful edibles” and unique gift items we have AND…where we might be in the Southwest at a local art/fair/market event. We would LOVE to meet you!

If you have something unique you would like to share, I would welcome you to email me so we could share on future posts.

Juan and I are excited to be here on this new path….We’re so thankful you will be here to enjoy the ride.
